Artist_Astral Flex whose respective melodies weave gentlyRecorded in one session at Rudy Van Gelders famous New Jersey studio, Sonny Rollins first recording for the Impulse! label finds him tackling five standards with gusto, aided by the very competent band of pianist Ray Bryant, bassist Walter Booker and drummer Mickey Roker. While label mates and contemporaries were dabbling in the avant garde in the mid 60s, here Rollins blasts his way through a couple of tough hard bop swingers, a pair of ballads and a
