The pilot and guide, seasoned veterans of this route, were baffled. In the countless times they had flown over this area. they had never before seen the tree. Was it really a tree? Were the waters at the base really sustaining its life? Or were these canyons and gorges leading down

the vibrant colors of the rows and rows of meticulously groomed cherry trees resembled a giant abacus

the varying hues and striations in the eons-old landscape created a zigzag pattern reminiscent of Missoni's iconic designs

and the image essentially titled itself

sparkling essence of Times Square at twilight was a siren call

The Italian word translates as 'burst of flame'

As we approached

We swiftly cleared the area to avoid being drawn into the fray

I flew to Japan specifically to capture their ephemeral beauty from the sky

Or did the products from those waters bring economic life to the people who lived and worked there

while speaking on her cell phone
