The vantage point from which to view this famous scene was so crowded and cramped when I say this

My stomach fluttered with nostalgic pangs for my old home in France where I grew up

I was standing in front of the White House gates just after sunset staring at an angry looking Secret Service officer

and the math in my head told me I needed about a 4 second exposure to get a picture of proper brightness and color

Each image was a 3 minute exposure, so this final image is essentially a 9 minute recording of a beautiful sunset over Central Park. This was my very first attempt at stitching long exposures together. The colors almost border on the fantasy, but the actual colors at the time were just as extraordinary.
